In this passage, Jesus tells the pharisees what truly defiles a man. Though the old testament laws were to create the Jews to be set apart, the Jews themselves made traditions and their own interpretations of the laws creating hypocrites as Jesus is to call the pharisees and Isaiah would in the previous generation.
